The Eastern Panhandle Alumnae Chapter of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., awarded Dr. Judy Ball its Friend of EPAC Award on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at its annual Jazz Brunch and Silent Auction in Martinsburg, WV.
“Judy Ball has been a wonderful partner to EPAC for the past two years assisting with legislative webinars. She advises EPAC on proposed voting legislation categorizing them as good-bad-ugly bills, and then she presents the information as part of the chapter’s legislative updates. Judy always says “yes” when EPAC calls upon her, sharing valuable information as it relates to voter rights and suppression within the state.
Judy was born and raised in West Virginia, graduated with a degree in political science from West Virginia University, and went on to receive master’s and doctoral degrees in public administration from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University in New York.
A career of 20+ years with agencies of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in Maryland and Washington, DC, followed.
Upon retirement from the Federal government, Judy moved to Corvallis, Oregon, where she continued to commit public service. During 10 years in Oregon, she was elected twice to the Corvallis School Board, and she represented the community on the Oregon State University Institutional Review Board. She concentrated primarily on housing and homelessness as a member of the Board of the League of Women Voters of Corvallis, the Board of Directors of Corvallis Housing First, and the Corvallis Planning Commission.
In 2018, Judy chose to return to West Virginia. She is active on two Boards: for the League of Women Voters of West Virginia and the League of Women Voters of Morgantown-Monongalia County. So far, her public service in West Virginia has focused on advocacy to promote election reforms and voting rights and to protect vulnerable populations, especially LGBTQ West Virginians.
Judy has a furry family of rescue animals: a little dog Berkeley and two kitties, Raven and Socks.”
