QUESTION 1. What should be done to control mounting Medicare costs?
ANSWER: We must protect Medicare benefits and services that seniors are relying on, especially for those on fixed incomes. I am fighting efforts to privatize or end traditional Medicare, while emphasizing savings through preventive health services, allowing Medicare to negotiate drug prices, and rewarding quality, cost effective care.
QUESTION 2. What programs are you willing to cut or eliminate in order to reduce the federal deficit?
ANSWER: Having voted for some painful spending cuts, I am also trying to eliminate abusive, special interest tax breaks like those for Big Oil. Balancing the budget requires growing the economy.
