· Now – Oct. 28 Voters can apply for absentee ballots

· Sept. 18 Mailing absentee ballots to voters begins

· Oct. 8- 14 Sample ballot published during this period

· Oct. 13 Last day to register to vote

· Oct. 27-Nov. 2 Sample ballot published during this period

· Oct. 28 Absentee ballot requests must be in the County Clerk’s office by this date

· Nov. 2 Deadline to hand-deliver absentee ballot to Clerk’s office.

· Nov. 3 GENERAL ELECTION DAY

· Nov. 9 Canvass

Meeting on changes in the Medicaid program, Monday, Sept. 23, 2019, 6:30 p.m. at Parkersburg-Wood Co. Library, Summers Auditorium. Open to the public

Lisa Diehl, Northern Regional Coordinator for West Virginians for Affordable Health Care, an organization whose goals include preserving, protecting, and improving Medicaid and the Medicaid expansion, will be our speaker. ( see www.wvahc.org )

West Virginia was one of the states that opted to expand Medicaid when the Affordable Care Act was adopted in 2010. Medicaid provides health care and long-term care for more than half a million West Virginians. (more than 29% in 2017) Miss Diehl will talk about changes to the program since then and proposed changes under the current administration.

Meeting on Solar Power Monday, April 22, 2019 6 p.m. Parkersburg City Council Chambers

Open to the public

A local authority on solar energy will speak to the League at 6 p.m. April 22 in the Parkersburg City Council chambers. Chip Pickering started Pickering Energy Solutions, a West Virginia company that installs, owns and maintains solar photovoltaic power systems in the Mid-Ohio Valley. Pickering is the chief executive officer of Pickering Associates, an architectural and engineering firm in Parkersburg, and vice president of Davis, Pickering and Co., an electrical contracting firm in Marietta. He is responsible for development, training and construction quality programs for Davis Pickering.

LWV Wood County Voter January 2019

The LWV of Wood County will present the film, “DARK MONEY” at the Parkersburg/Wood County Public Library at 1:30 pm on Saturday, January 19. The film is open to the public at no cost.

“Dark Money”, a political thriller, examines one of the greatest present threats to American democracy: the influence of untraceable corporate money on our elections and elected officials. The film takes viewers to Montana–a front line in the fight to preserve fair elections nationwide–to follow an intrepid local journalist working to expose the real-life impact of the US Supreme Court’s Citizens United decision.
